Victorian Towel Rack with Bead Work and Lion Head

This exceptional antique wooden towel rack is a truly special find, combining beautiful craftsmanship, intricate carving, and an incredibly charming piece of needle bead work. (Circa 1880 - 1890s)

The substantial carved wood frame features a rich, warm finish with beautifully figured wood throughout, giving the piece wonderful depth and character. At the center of the upper crest is a beautifully carved lion’s head, surrounded by scrolling architectural details and decorative flourishes. The top is further accented with a highly figured burl-like wood panel, creating a striking contrast against the darker carved elements.

The lower portion features an ornate towel bar with turned ends and carved supports, while delicate scrollwork and floral-inspired carving adorn the bottom edge. Perhaps the most unique detail is the inset floral panel, which appears to be hand worked beadwork, depicting a delicate garland of flowers, leaves, and foliage in soft, muted tones against a pale green ground. The combination of the intricate beadwork and elaborate carved woodwork makes this far more than a utilitarian towel rack—it is a decorative work of art in its own right.

This would be absolutely beautiful displayed in a bathroom, powder room, guest room, or even incorporated into a collected wall arrangement where its architectural presence and craftsmanship can really be appreciated.
